Mention: Parts and Labor

November 25, 2007 - Mention: Parts and Labor

From the first time I heard them at Monkey Mania in Denver there was something that stuck me about the sound of Parts and Labor. These days there is plenty of experimental music being created in many different genres, though possibly for more of their experimental side P&L contains a sense of reason beyond the chaos that which one might first realize.

Recently I was fortunate enough to see two of their shows in a week in two different cities/states. I think many would agree that you can really see true talent in the performance of a three piece band. P&L strongly radiates this from their live shows to their recorded albums. Though seemingly chaotic their systematic approach makes them a trio for the experience and their talent easily continues over to their albums.

Their latest album Mapmaker continues the electronic infused punk inspired sound. Though this is only the first full album I have listened to of theirs their sound appears only more refined and narrowed from the few tracks I listened to years ago. I'm not one for throwing music around, however P&L seems to contain a broader audience of which few seem to be aware. After the first show, I drug a few more friends with me to the second show of which all of them really enjoyed.

These guys really have a lot further to go.
